VeggieTales adalah seri film animasi komputer anak-anak yang berasal dari Amerika Serikat, dengan tokoh utama buah-buahan dan sayur-sayuran antropomorfis, mengunggah cerita-cerita bertema moral Kristen. Sebagian besar episode mengambil kisah Alkitab yang dikemas dan dibumbui rujukan humor pada budaya populer. Seri ini dikembangkan oleh Big Idea Entertainment dan dimiliki oleh Universal Pictures melalui anak perusahaan, DreamWorks Classics dari DreamWorks Animation.[2]

VeggieTales diciptakan oleh Phil Vischer dan Mike Nawrocki melalui perusahaan mereka "Big Idea Productions". Tujuannya adalah untuk menghasilkan video anak-anak yang menyampaikan tema moral Kristen dan mengajarkan nilai-nilai alkitabiah. Cerita animasi melibatkan karakter-karakter buah-buahan dan sayur-sayuran yang rutin hadir, yang tinggal pada suatu meja dapur. Program ini awalnya ditawarkan dalam pasar direct-to-video, dengan program perdana 30-menit, Where's God When I'm S-Scared?, dirilis pada bulan Desember 1993.[3][4] Totalnya, Big Idea merilis 45 episode VeggieTales termasuk tiga koleksi Silly Song, 5 episode khusus hari raya, 4 episode LarryBoy dan satu episode pelajaran menggambar.

Setiap episode umumnya mengikuti suatu format baku di mana masalah moral disampaikan pada sekuen pembukaan di atas meja dapur, baik melalui pertanyaan pemirsa atau suatu topik yang diangkat oleh Bob atau Larry, diikuti satu atau lebih "film" yang membahas masalah tersebut, dengan sebuah Silly Song ("lagu kocak") di tengah-tengahnya. Setiap episode diakhiri dengan kalimat penutup khas: "Remember kids, God made you special and He loves you very much" ("Ingatlah anak-anak, Allah membuatmu spesial dan Ia sangat mengasihimu".
VeggieTales di TV[sunting | sunting sumber]
Acara televisi NBC VeggieTales mengubah format umum dengan pembukaan di dalam ruang keluarga di rumah Bob the Tomato. Bob, Larry the Cucumber, dan karakter-karakter Veggie lainnya kemudian menyanyikan lagu tema acara saat mereka melompat-lompat ke pintu depan rumah Bob.
VeggieTales pada Netflix[sunting | sunting sumber]
Seri baru, VeggieTales in the House, ditayangkan perdana pada Netflix saat Thanksgiving 2014.[5] Karakter utama seri ini adalah Doug TenNapel dan menampilkan lagu tema oleh pemusik studio independen serta kolaborator rutin TenNapel, Terry Scott Taylor. Perjanjian antara pemilik VeggieTales sekarang, DreamWorks, dan Netflix meliputi rilis 75 episode dalam periode 3 tahun masing-masing terdiri dari dua cerita selama 11 menit.[6] Pada tahun 2017, VeggieTales in the House digantikan oleh VeggieTales in the City.
