Jonathan Edward Bernthal[1] (/ˈbɜːrnθɔːl/; lahir 20 September 1976)[2] adalah aktor asal Amerika Serikat. Bernthal memulai kariernya di teater sebelum tampil membintangi berbagai acara televisi. Dia mendapatkan pujian untuk perannya sebagai Shane Walsh di seri AMC, The Walking Dead (2010-2012; 2018). Jonathan Edward Bernthal[3] lahir di Washington, D.C. pada tanggal 20 September 1976, dari sebuah keluarga Yahudi.[4][5] Ia adalah putra dari Joan Lurie (née Marx) dan Eric Lawrence "Rick" Bernthal, mantan pengacara di Latham & Watkins LLP dan ketua dewan direksi The Humane Society of the United States hingga tahun 2019[1][6] Kakek dari pihak ayahnya adalah musisi dan produser Murray Bernthal (1911–2010).[7] Ia memiliki dua saudara laki-laki: Nicholas, seorang ahli bedah ortopedi dan profesor di UCLA, dan Thomas, seorang CEO lembaga konsultan yang menikah dengan miliarder dan mantan COO Facebook Sheryl Sandberg.[8][9][10][11] Sepupunya adalah musisi rock Adam Schlesinger (1967–2020).[12]

Bernthal dibesarkan di Cabin John, Maryland.
