Masalah kejahatan
Dalam filsafat agama dan teologi, masalah kejahatan adalah pertanyaan bagaimana kita menjelaskan kejahatan di dunia (tindakan, peristiwa, atau keadaan yang membawa penderitaan, kehilangan, kemiskinan, dan ketidakadilan) jika Tuhan atau dewa-dewi bersifat mahatahu, mahakuasa, dan maha-berbelas kasihan [1][2] Banyak filsuf mengklaim bahwa keberadaan Tuhan tidaklah cocok dengan dunia yang penuh dengan kejahatan.[3]
David Hume dalam bukunya Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion (1779) mengutip argumen Epikuros:
"Apakah Tuhan berniat mencegah kejahatan, tetapi tidak mampu? Maka Ia tidak mahakuasa. Apakah Ia mampu, tetapi tidak berniat [melakukannya]? Maka ia kejam. Apakah Ia mampu dan berniat? Kalau begitu, dari mana datangnya kejahatan?"[4][5]
