Perang Saudara Somalia adalah konflik bersenjata yang dimulai pada tahun 1988. Konflik ini msih berlangsung hingga kini. Meningkatnya kekerasan dan situasi yang kacau menyebabkan terjadinya krisis kemanusiaan dan menyebarnya anarkisme.
Resolusi Dewan Keamanan PBB 733 dan Resolusi Dewan Keamanan PBB 746 menyebabkan dibentuknya UNOSOM I, misi pertama untuk memberikan pemulihan kemanusiaan dan restorasi orde di Somalia setelah pembubaran pemerintah pusatnya.
