Kodok sejati adalah semua anggota famili Bufonidae, pada ordo Aruna (katak dan kodok). Famili ini menjadi satu-satunya pada aruna yang semua anggota-anggotanya disebut dengan nama "kodok", meski beberapa dapat disebut sebagai katak (seperti katak badut). Sekarang famili ini memiliki lebih dari 35 genera, dengan Bufo sebagai genera yang paling terkenal.
