Keuskupan Agung Lviv didirikan pada tanggal 28 Agustus 1412 di kota Lwów (hari ini Lviv). Ia berfungsi sebagai takhta metropolitan Gereja Katolik di Ukraina. Pelindung utama Keuskupan Agung adalah Perawan Maria Bunda Pengasih.
Sejarah
[sunting | sunting sumber]Pada tahun 1909, Paus Pius X mengumumkan Perawan Maria yang Terberkati, Ratu Polandia dan Beato Jakub Strzemię sebagai pelindung keuskupan agung Lviv. tahun 1910 Perawan Maria yang Terberkati, Ratu Polandia menjadi pelindung utama. Saat ini pelindung utamanya adalah Santa Perawan Maria Bunda Pengasih (NMP Łaskawa). Hari pelindung dirayakan pada tanggal 1 April, hari ketika Raja Polandia Jan II Kazimierz Waza mengambil sumpah di Katedral Lwów pada tahun 1655, selama "Banjir Besar," mengambil sumpah kesetiaan kepada Tuhan dan mendeklarasikan Bunda Tuhan sebagai Ratu Polandia.

Uskup Agung Metropolitan Lviv (dan Ukraina de facto)
[sunting | sunting sumber]Upaya untuk melikuidasi Gereja Katolik di Ukraina dilakukan dengan dimulainya Perang Dunia II pada tahun 1939 dan pembagian Polandia antara Jerman Nazi dan Uni Soviet. Setelah Perang Dunia II dan hingga jatuhnya Uni Soviet, Keuskupan Agung Lwów berpusat di Lubaczów.
