Mengikuti Jejak Kristus, karya Thomas à Kempis, adalah buku renungan Kristen yang pertama kali disusun dalam bahasa Latin Abad Pertengahan dengan judul De Imitatione Christi (ca 1418–1427).[1][2] Teks renungan ini dibagi menjadi empat buku berisi petunjuk spiritual yang terperinci: (i) "Nasihat Bermanfaat dalam Kehidupan Spiritual", (ii) "Petunjuk untuk Kehidupan Batin", (iii) "Tentang Penghiburan Batin", dan (iv) " Tentang Sakramen Mahakudus". Pendekatan devosional dalam The Imitation of Christ menekankan kehidupan batin dan penarikan diri dari hal-hal duniawi, dibandingkan dengan peniruan aktif terhadap Kristus yang dilakukan oleh para saudara lainnya.[1] Devosi dalam buku-buku ini menekankan devosi kepada Ekaristi sebagai elemen kunci kehidupan spiritual.[1]
Mengikuti Jejak Kristus adalah sebuah buku pedoman bagi kehidupan spiritual yang muncul dari gerakan Devotio Moderna, yang diikuti Thomas.[3] Buku ini mungkin adalah karya renungan Kristen yang paling banyak dibaca setelah Alkitab,[4][5] dan dianggap sebagai karya renungan dan religius yang klasik.[6] Buku ini dituliskan secara anonim dalam bahasa Latin Belanda ca. 1418–1427. Buku ini langsung populer, dan setelah edisi cetak pertama pada tahun 1471–1472, buku ini diterbitkan dalam 745 edisi sebelum tahun 1650.[7] Selain dari Alkitab, tidak ada buku lain yang telah diterjemahkan ke dalam lebih banyak bahasa daripada Mengikuti Jejak Kristus pada saat itu.[8]
