Sphagnopsida termasuk subkelas singel Sphagnidae, dengan dua ordo. Ordo Sphagnales memiliki empat genus yang masih hidup: Sphagnum, Ambuchanania, Eosphagnum, dan Flatbergium. Ordo Protosphagnales berisi satu spesies fosil.
