Pada 21 Oktober 2016, serangan DDoS secara berulang menargetkan layanan Sistem Penamaan Domain (DNS) Dyn yang mengakibatkan layanan internet di wilayah Eropa dan Amerika Utara menjadi tidak tersedia.[1][2]

Kronologi dan dampak[sunting | sunting sumber]

Berdasarkan informasi dari Dyn, serangan DDoS terjadi pada pukul 7.00 EDT dan masalah tersebut telah diselesaikan pada pukul 9.20 EDT. Namun, serangan selanjutnya terjadi pada pukul 11.52 EDT dan ini berakibat pada pengguna internet yang mengalami kesulitan ketika mengakses beberapa situs web.[3][4] Serangan ketiga terjadi pada pukul 16.00 EDT.[5][6] Pada pukul 18.11 EDT, pihak Dyn menyatakan bahwa serangan tersebut sudah dapat diatasi.[7]

Departemen Keamanan Dalam Negeri Amerika Serikat memulai investigasi atas peristiwa ini, berdasarkan masukan dari Gedung Putih.[1][29][30] Belum ada satupun pihak peretas yang diketahui maupun bertanggung jawab pasca serangan.[31] Pihak Dyn menyatakan bahwa serangan yang terjadi sangat kompleks dan berbeda dari biasanya.[4]

Berdasarkan informasi dari situs Politico, kelompok peretas yang bernama New World Hackers mengaku bertanggung jawab atas peristiwa ini.[32] Meskipun demikan, klaim ini belum dapat dikonfirmasi.[32] WikiLeaks menyindir aksi penyerangan tersebut dengan melakukan pos di Twitter "Assange masih hidup dan WikiLeaks masih tetap bisa diakses. Kami meminta para pendukung kami untuk berhenti meretas internet di Amerika Serikat. Anda benar-benar telah melakukannya.".[33] Sebelumnya, New World Hackers melakukan klaim atas serangan yang terjadi pada situs BBC dan ESPN.com.[34]
