Microcystis aeruginosa adalah spesies cyanobacteria air tawar yang dapat menyebabkan harmful algal bloom.[1][2]

Racun[sunting | sunting sumber]

M. aeruginosa dapat menghasilkan neurotoksin (lipopolysaccharides-LPS)[3] dan hepatotoksin (mikrosistin). Akibat mikrosistin yang dihasilkan, alga ini menjadi penyebab polusi air minum.[4][5]

Selain itu, pengaruhnya terhadap jumlah oksigen di air dapat mengakibatkan kematian ikan dan kehidupan air lainnya.[6]
