Joseph Mitsuo Kitagawa (8 Maret 1915 – 7 Oktober 1992) adalah seorang cendekiawan Jepang Amerika terkenal dalam kajian agama. Ia merupakan Profesor Emeritus dan Kepala University of Chicago Divinity School. Ia adalah salah satu pendiri bidang sejarah agama. Ia dikenal karena kontribusinya terhadap kajian tradisi agama di Asia dan pemahaman antar-budaya Timur dan Barat.[1]
