Perebutan wilayah di Laut Tiongkok Selatan melibatkan klaim-klaim pulau dan wilayah kelautan pada beberapa negara berdaulat di wilayah tersebut, yakni Brunei, Republik Rakyat China, Republik China (Taiwan), Malaysia, Filipina, dan Vietnam. Terdapat perebutan wilayah yang terjadi pada kepulauan Paracel dan kepulauan Spratly, serta perbatasan wilayah kelautan di Teluk Tonkin dan tempat-tempat lainnya. Terdapat perebutan tambahan di perairan di dekat Kepulauan Natuna, Indonesia.[1] Kepentingan negara-negara yang berbeda meliputi perebutan wilayah perikanan di sekitar dua kepulauan tersebut; pengambilan minyak bumi dan gas alam di bawah perairan berbagai bagian di Laut Tiongkok Selatan; dan kontrol strategis dari jalur-jalur perkapalan penting.

Perebutan-perebutannnya meliputi perbatasan wilayah kelautan dan kepulauan. Terdapat beberapa perebutan, yang masing-masing melibatkan sejumlah negara yang berbeda:

  1. Wilayah sembilan garis putus yang diklaim oleh China yang meliputi kebanyakan wilayah Laut Tiongkok Selatan dan klaim-klaim Zona Ekonomi Eksklusif dari Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Filipina, Singapura, Taiwan, dan Vietnam.
  2. Perbatasan wilayah kelautan di sepanjang persisir Vietnam antara Brunei, Kamboja, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Filipina, Taiwan, dan Vietnam.
  3. Perbatasan wilayah kelautan di utara pulau Kalimantan antara Brunei, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Filipina, Taiwan, dan Vietnam.
  4. Pulau-pulau di Laut China Selatan, yang meliputi Kepulauan Paracel, Kepulauan Prata, Gorong pasir Scarborough dan Kepulauan Spratly antara Brunei, China, Malaysia, Filipina, Taiwan, dan Vietnam.
  5. Perbatasan wilayah kelautan di utara perairan Kepulauan Natuna antara Kamboja, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, dan Vietnam.[2]
  6. Perbatasan wilayah kelautan di lepas pesisir Palawan dan Luzon antara Brunei, China, Malaysia, Filipina, Taiwan, dan Vietnam.
  7. Perbatasan wilayah kelautan, wilayah tanah, dan kepulauan Sabah (awalnya Borneo Utara), termasuk Ambalat dan Labuan, antara Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, dan Filipina.
  8. Perbatasan wilayah kelautan dan kepulauan di Selat Luzon antara China, Filipina, dan Taiwan.
  9. Perbatasan wilayah kelautan di Pedra Branca dan pulau-pulau di sekitarnya antara Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapura.
