Gorila pegunungan (Gorilla beringei beringei) adalah salah satu dari dua subspesies gorila timur. Terdapat dua populasi gorila pegunungan. Satu populasi dapat ditemui di Pegunungan Virunga di Afrika Tengah di dalam tiga taman nasional: Mgahinga di Uganda barat daya; Vulcans, di Rwanda barat laut; dan Virunga di Republik Demokratik Kongo. Populasi lain dapat ditemui di Taman Nasional Bwindi. Beberapa primatolog menyatakan^[3] bahwa Gorila Bwindi di Uganda mungkin merupakan subspesies yang terpisah, walaupun deskripsi terpisah masih belum selesai dibuat.

Pada November 2012, diperkirakan terdapat 880 gorila pegunungan.^[4]
