Monocercomonoides adalah sebuah genus dari Excavata berflagela yang digolongkan dalam ordo Oxymonadida. Genus ini diusulkan oleh Bernard V. Travis. Kelompok ini merupakan genus eukariota pertama yang diketahui tidak memiliki mitokondria sama sekali dan tidak ada semua protein khas yang bertanggung jawab untuk fungsi mitokondria.[14] Data menunjukkan bahwa tidak adanya mitokondria bukanlah karakteristik dari nenek moyangnya yang diturunkan, melainkan karena kehilangan sekunder. Monocercomonoides sp. diketahui mendapatkan energi melalui aksi enzimatis nutrisi yang diserap dari lingkungan.[14] Organisme ini penting karena mereka menolak anggapan bahwa eukariota harus memiliki mitokondria agar berfungsi dengan baik. Genom Monocercomonoides terdiri atas sekitar 75 juta pasangan basa (75 Mbp), dengan prediksi 16.629 gen penyandi protein.[14]
