Kevin DeYoung (lahir 1977) adalah seorang teolog dan penulis Reformed dari Amerika. Saat ini ia adalah gembala sidang di Christ Covenant Church, di Matthews, North Carolina. [1] Gereja yang sebelumnya ia gembalakan, University Reformed Church (East Lansing, Michigan), berpindah ke Gereja Presbiterian di Amerika (PCA) pada bulan Maret 2015 setelah sebelumnya menjadi anggota Gereja Reformed di Amerika (RCA).[2]

Kehidupan awal[sunting | sunting sumber]

DeYoung lahir di South Holland, Illinois, dan sebagian besar dibesarkan di Jenison, Michigan, tempat orang tuanya, Lee dan Sheri DeYoung, bekerja di Words of Hope - sebuah pelayanan media internasional yang berpusat di Grand Rapids, Michigan.[5] Kedua kakeknya berasal dari latar belakang Reformed Belanda.[6]

DeYoung lulus dengan predikat summa cum laude dari Hope College di Michigan pada tahun 1999 dan kemudian menerima gelar M.Div. dari Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary di Massachusetts pada tahun 2002.[7] Ia menyelesaikan gelar Ph.D. dalam bidang Sejarah Modern Awal yang berfokus pada teologi John Witherspoon di University of Leicester (John Coffey menjadi pembimbingnya), dan berhasil mempertahankan tesis Ph.D. nya pada tanggal 10 Januari 2019.[8]

DeYoung pertama kali melayani sebagai pendeta di First Reformed Church di Orange City, Iowa. Dari Agustus 2004 hingga Juni 2017, ia melayani sebagai pendeta senior di University Reformed Church di East Lansing, Michigan, dekat Michigan State University.

DeYoung telah menulis atau ikut menulis banyak buku dan artikel. Bukunya yang berjudul Why We're Not Emerging (ditulis bersama dengan Ted Kluck) memenangkan penghargaan buku Christianity Today tahun 2009. [9] Bukunya Why We Love the Church (juga ditulis bersama dengan Ted Kluck) memenangkan penghargaan buku penghargaan buku Christianity Today tahun 2010 dan Leadership Journal Golden Canon Book Award. DeYoung adalah anggota Dewan The Gospel Coalition bersama Tim Keller, John Piper, dan lainnya.[11] [12]

Dia telah menjadi pembicara utama di berbagai konferensi termasuk Together for the Gospel, The Gospel Coalition, Shepherd's Conference, dan masih banyak lagi.
