John Calvin Maxwell (lahir 1947) adalah seorang pendeta, pembicara, dan penulis Amerika yang menulis banyak buku, terutama fokus pada tema kepemimpinan. Judul-judul bukunya termasuk The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership dan The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader: Becoming the Person Others Will Want to Follow. Buku-bukunya terjual jutaan kopi, beberapa masuk pada Daftar New York Times Best Seller.[1][2]


Kehidupan Pribadi[sunting | sunting sumber]

John C. Maxwell lahir di Garden City, Michigan pada tahun 1947.[3] Maxwell adalah seorang Kristen evangelis. Ia mengikuti ayahnya dalam pelayanan, menyelesaikan gelar sarjana di Ohio Christian University pada tahun 1969, gelar Master of Divinity di Azusa Pasific University dan gelar Doctor of Ministry di Fuller Theolosdsdgical Seminary. Saat ini ia berada di Florida Selatan bersama istrinya, Margaret.

Selama lebih dari 30 tahun, Maxwell telah memimpin gereja-gereja di Indiana, Ohio, California, dan Florida. Setelah menjabat sebagai pendeta senior selama 14 tahun, pada tahun 1995 ia meninggalkan Skyline Church untuk mengabdikan dirinya untuk berbicara dan menulis sepenuh waktu. Akan tetapi, pada tahun 2004, ia kembali ke pelayanan para jemaat di Christ Fellowship, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, dimana ia kini berada menjadi seorang pendeta pengajar.

Pada 16 November 2008, ia mulai melayani sebagai pendeta tamu di Crystal Cathedral yang terkenal di Orange County, California. Pembimbing Maxwell, Robert H. Schuller, telah memberikan berbagai catatan berkhutbah sebagai pendeta evangelis di gereja besar miliknya, sejak anaknya, Robert A. Schuller, mengundurkan diri sebagai pendeta senior tahun 2008. Maxwell kembali berkhutbah di Crystal Cathedral selama beberapa waktu dan pesan-pesannya disiarkan di program televisi Hour of Power.

Maxwell adalah seorang penulis, pembicara dan pakar kepemimpinan yang diakui secara internasional. Ia adalah pendiri dari INJOY, Maximum Impact, ISS dan EQUIP, sebuah organisasi pengembangan kepemimpinan yang bekerja untuk membantu para pemimpin.[3] EQUIP terlibat dengan para pemimpin lebih dari 80 negara. Maxwell merupakan seorang penulis New York Times, Wall Street Journal, dan Business Week dengan penjualan terbaik, serta salah satu dari 25 penulis ternama di 10th Anniversary Hall of Fame Amazon.com. Maxwell melayani sebagai dewan pembina di Indiana Wesleyan University dan memiliki bangunan bernama Maxwell Center for Business and Leadership, setelah dia berada di sana. Maxwell menjadi pembicara kunci pada National Agents Alliance NAA Leadership Conference selama beberapa waktu, terakhir pada tahun 2010.[6] Pada tahun 2012, ia memperoleh penghargaan Golden Gavel dari Toastmasters International.[7] Pada Mei 2014, Maxwell dijuluki pakar manajemen dan kepemimpinan nomor satu di dunia oleh Majalah Inc.[8]
