The New York Times adalah koran harian yang diterbitkan di New York oleh Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr. dan didistribusikan secara internasional. Koran ini dimiliki oleh perusahaan The New York Times Company, yang juga menerbitkan 15 koran lainnya, antara lain International Herald Tribune dan Boston Globe. Koran ini dijuluki "Gray Lady" karena gaya dan penampilannya, dan dianggap sebagai koran yang bisa diandalkan sebagai sumber referensi resmi untuk kejadian-kejadian terkini.[2] Anggota stafnya telah berhasil memenangi lebih dari 100 Penghargaan Pulitzer, terbanyak dibandingkan dengan organisasi berita lainnya.[3]
Koran ini diterbitkan pertama kali pada 18 September 1851 oleh Henry Jarvis Raymond, seorang jurnalis dan politikus, dan George Jones, seorang bankir. Saat itu namanya New-York Daily Times. Nama The New York Times mulai digunakan pada tahun 1857 dan edisi Minggu mulai terbit pada 21 April 1861. Pada tahun 1896, Adolph Ochs menjadi pemilik The New York Times dan di bawah arahannya, koran ini memperoleh oplah, reputasi, dan jangkauan internasionalnya. Edisi internasional The New York Times dimulai pada tahun 1946 namun dihentikan pada 1967, ketika dimulainya kerja sama dengan The Washington Post untuk menerbitkan International Herald Tribune.
