Vernakular atau bahasa vernakular adalah bentuk bahasa yang dipakai dalam kehidupan sehari-hari oleh masyarakat umum dari sebuah populasi. Vernakular bisa dianggap berkontras dengan bahasa baku, bahasa nasional, bahasa sastra, atau lingua franca, yang dipakai untuk memfasilitasi komunikasi di belahan sebuah kawasan besar. Bahasa vernakular biasanya adalah bahasa asli, kebanyakan dipakai dalam percakapan ketimbang penulisan dan biasanya dipandang berstatus lebih rendah daripada bentuk yang melalui tahap kodifikasi.^[1] Vernakular bisa berupa ragam bahasa, dialek geografis, sosiolek, atau bahasa daerah.

Beberapa linguis memakai istilah "vernakular" dan "dialek nonstandar/takbaku" sebagai sinonim.^[2]
