Hipotesis lokasi Atlantis

Hipotesis lokasi Atlantis adalah berbagai teori tentang lokasi dunia nyata yang diusulkan untuk pulau fiktif Atlantis. Atlantis digambarkan sebagai peradaban hilang yang disebutkan dalam dialog Plato, Timaeus dan Critias, yang ditulis sekitar 360 SM. Dalam dialog tersebut, seorang tokoh bernama Critias mengklaim bahwa sebuah pulau bernama Atlantis tenggalam di dalam lautan sekitar 9.200 tahun sebelumnya. Menurut dialog yang ditulis Plato, cerita ini diturunkan kepadanya melalui kakeknya, yang juga bernama Critias, dia mendengarnya dari ayahnya sendiri, Dropides, yang telah menerimanya dari Solon, anggota parlemen Athena yang mendapatkan kisah tersebut dari sebuah kuil di Mesir. Menurut dialog Plato, Atlantis terletak di Atlantic Pelagos, "Laut Atlantik",^[2] "di hadapan" Pilar-Pilar Herkules (Στήλες του Ηρακλή), menghadap sebuah distrik yang disebut Gades atau Gadira modern (Gadiron), sebuah lokasi yang sering dianggap sebagai daerah Gibraltar modern oleh beberapa peneliti Atlantis. Namun, terlepas dari hal ini, berbagai lokasi dan hipotesis lain tentang lokasi Atlantis telah diusulkan.
