Helvetica adalah rupa huruf tanpa kait terkenal yang dikembangkan tahun 1957 oleh perancang rupa huruf asal Swiss, Max Miedinger bersama Eduard Hoffmann.^[1]

Sejarah

Helvetica dikembangkan tahun 1957 oleh Max Miedinger bersama Eduard Hoffmann di Haas'sche Schriftgiesserei (pembuat huruf Haas) di Münchenstein, Swiss. Haas berusaha merancang rupa huruf tanpa kait baru yang akan bersaing dengan Akzidenz-Grotesk yang sukses di pasaran Swiss. Awalnya bernama Neue Haas Grotesk, desainnya didasarkan pada Schelter-Grotesk dan Normal Grotesk milik Haas. Tujuan desain baru ini adalah menciptakan rupa huruf netral yang memiliki kejelasan baik, tanpa arti intrinsik dalam bentuknya, dan dapat digunakan dalam berbagai macam papan petunjuk.^[1]

Penghargaan

Helvetica menempati peringkat pertama dalam daftar "Best Fonts of All Time" menurut FontShop Germany.^[2]
