Katolik Mangalore (Konkani: Kodialchein Katholik) adalah sebuah komunitas etnis-agama Katolik Roman yang mengikuti Ritus Latin dari Keuskupan Mangalore (terletak di distrik Canara Selatan) di pesisir barat daya Karnataka, India.[2][3] Mereka adalah orang Konkani dan berbicara dalam bahasa Konkani.
Katolik Mangalore kontemporer utamanya adalah keturunan dari Katolik Goa yang bermigrasi ke Canara Selatan antara 1560 dan 1763
Diaspora Katolik Mangalore kebanyakan terkonsentrasi di negara-negara Arab Teluk Persia dan Anglosfer.
Identitas etnis
Orang-orang Katolik Roma dari Keuskupan Mangalore (terletak di distrik Canara Selatan) dan keturunan-keturunan mereka utamanya dikenal sebagai Katolik Mangalore.[2] Keuskupan tersebut terletak di pesisir barat daya India. Keuskupan tersebut melingkupi distrik sipil Dakshina Kannada dan Udupi di negara bagian Karnataka, dan Kasaragod di negara bagian Kerala. Wilayah tersebut secara kolektif disebut sebagai Canara Selatan pada jaman Britania Raj dan kemudian menjadi bagian dari partisi India sampai Undang-Undang Reorganisasi Negara-Negara Bagian pada 1956.[1]
Pada 1526, kapal-kapal Portugis datang ke Mangalore, dan sejumlah penduduk lokal berpindah ke agama Kristen secara perlahan. Namun, sejumlah besar penduduk Kristen tidak eksis disana sampai abad ke-16, ketika terdapat imigrasi orang-orang Kristen berskala besar dari Goa ke Canara Selatan.
