Bottoms yang lahir di Santa Barbara, California, adalah anak ketiga dari James "Bud" Bottoms dan Betty. Ia adalah saudara dari aktor Timothy Bottoms (lahir 1951), Joseph Bottoms (lahir 1954) dan Ben Bottoms (lahir 1960).[1][2]
