Reith Lectures
Reith Lectures adalah serangkaian kuliah radio tahunan di BBC yang diberikan oleh tokoh-tokoh terkemuka pada saat itu. Para tokoh ini diserahi tugas oleh BBC dan disiarkan di Radio 4 dan World Service. Kuliah tersebut bermula pada tahun 1948 untuk memperingati kontribusi bersejarah yang dilakukan bagi dunia penyiaran publik oleh Lord Reith, direktur jenderal pertama BBC.
Reith berpendapat bahwa penyiaran harus menjadi layanan publik yang bertujuan untuk memperkaya kehidupan intelektual dan budaya bangsa. Didorong oleh semangat ini, BBC mengundang tokoh-tokoh terkemuka untuk menyampaikan kuliah radio setiap tahunnya. Kuliah ini bertujuan untuk memajukan pemahaman dan perdebatan publik terkait isu-isu kontemporer.[1]
Pengajar Reith pertama adalah filsuf dan calon peraih Nobel, Bertrand Russell. Pengajar wanita pertama Reith adalah Margery Perham pada tahun 1961,[2] sedangkan pengajar termuda adalah Colin Blakemore, yang berusia 32 tahun pada tahun 1976, ketika ia memberikan kuliah lebih dari enam episode mengenai otak dan kesadaran manusia.[3]
