Dirilis pada 7 Agustus 2006, lagu ini menjadi singel ketiga yang dirilis secara komersial dari album dan keempat secara keseluruhan ("The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage" hanya dirilis untuk keperluan promosi).

Judul lagu diambil dari sebuah dialog film tahun 2004, Closer. Karakter bernama Alice yang diperankan oleh Natalie Portman mengatakan "Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off, but it's better if you do." "But It's Better If You Do" juga merupakan lagu dari Panic at the Disco yang dirilis sebagai singel sebelum "Lying is the Most Fun".

Di Amerika Serikat, lagu ini menduduki posisi nomor 28 di tangga lagu Billboard Alternative Songs,[1] nomor 96 di Pop 100,[2] dan nomor 4 di Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles.[3]
