James Whale (22 Juli 1889 – 29 Mei 1957) adalah seorang sutradara film, sutradara teater dan aktor Inggris. Ia paling diingat atas empat film klasik-nya: Frankenstein (1931), The Old Dark House (1932), The Invisible Man (1933) dan Bride of Frankenstein (1935). Whale juga menyutradarai film-film dalam genre lainnya, yang meliputi apa yang dianggap menjadi versi film definitif dari musikal Show Boat (1936). Ia menjadi makin lekat dengan kaitannya pada horor, tetapi beberapa film horornya jatuh pada ketidakjelasan.
