Titus Burckhardt (Ibrahim Izz al-Din dari nama Islamnya) adalah seorang filsuf dan sejarawan Jerman Swiss, yang lahir di Florence, Italia pada tahun 1908 dan meninggal di Lausanne, Swiss pada tahun 1984.[1] Dia mengabdikan seluruh hidupnya untuk mempelajari dan memaparkan berbagai aspek tradisi kebijaksanaan.

Dia adalah anggota terkemuka dari "Sekolah Tradisionalis" penulis abad ke-20. Dia sering menjadi kontributor jurnal Studies in Comparative Religion Bersama dengan anggota terkemuka lainnya di sekolah tersebut.[2]

Burckhardt adalah keturunan dari keluarga bangsawan Basel. Dia adalah keponakan besar sejarawan seni Jacob Burckhardt dan putra pematung Carl Burckhardt. Titus Burckhardt adalah seorang kontemporer dari Frithjof Schuon–yang memimpin eksponen pemikiran tradisionalis di abad ke-20–dan keduanya menghabiskan masa sekolah mereka di Basel sekitar waktu Perang Dunia Pertama. Inilah permulaan persahabatan yang intim dan hubungan intelektual dan spiritual yang harmonis yang berlangsung seumur hidup.

Burckhardt adalah, sebagai kakeknya, penikmat seni, arsitektur dan peradaban Islam. Ia mengumpulkan dan menerbitkan karya dari para master sufi: Ibnu Arabi (1165–1240), Abdul Karim Al-Jili (1365–1424) dan Muhammad al-Arabi al-Darqawi (1760–1823).
