Kasus pertama pandemi COVID-19 di Kerala (yang juga merupakan kasus pertama di seluruh India) dikonfirmasikan di Thrissur pada 30 Januari 2020.[3][4] Jumlah kasus aktif memuncak dalam jumlah 266 pada 6 April sebelum menurun. Untuk pertama kalinya dalam lebih dari 45 hari, tidak ada kasus baru pada 1 Mei 2020.[5] Pada 19 Mei 2020, terdapat 642 kasus terkonfirmasi dengan 497 (Kesalahan ekspresi: Operator / tak terduga%) kesembuhan dan 3 kematian di negara bagian tersebut.[6] Kerala has the lowest mortality rate of Kesalahan ekspresi: Operator / tak terduga% among all states in India.[2] Kesuksesan Kerala dalam menangani COVID-19 banyak dipuji di tingkat nasional dan mancanegara.[7][8][9][10][11][12][13]
