Michael Ian Black (né Schwartz; lahir 12 Agustus 1971)[1] adalah seorang komedian, aktor dan penulis asal Amerika Serikat. Ia telah membintangi beberapa serial komedi TV, termasuk The State, Viva Variety, Stella, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, Michael & Michael Have Issues dan Another Period. Pada akhir 1990-an hingga awal 2000-an, ia menjadi dalang dan pengisi suara untuk anjing boneka kaus kaki Pets.com, dan memainkan karakter pendukung dalam serial drama NBC, Ed. Sejak 2008 ia telah menulis sejumlah buku, termasuk beberapa buku untuk anak-anak.

Kehidupan awal

Black lahir di Chicago, Illinois, putra dari pasangan Jill dan Robert Schwartz, seorang pemilik toko dan seorang eksekutif.[2] Keluarganya beragama Yahudi.[3] Ia tumbuh besar di Hillsborough Township, New Jersey,[4] dan bersekolah di SMA Hillsborough. Ia juga mengikuti perkemahan musim panas Stagedoor Manor untuk seni pertunjukan.[5]

Orang tuanya bercerai ketika dia berusia tiga tahun; ibunya, Jill, kemudian menjadi lesbian.[6] Ayah Black meninggal pada usia 39 tahun karena cedera kepala yang tampaknya diderita dalam penyerangan, dan reaksi alergi selama operasi berikutnya.[7]

Nama lahirnya, Schwartz, berasal dari kata Jerman, schwarz, yang berarti hitam (black). Ia mengubah namanya menjadi Michael Ian Black agar tidak tertukar dengan aktor Mike Schwartz .

Black sempat kuliah di Universitas New York, namun keluar untuk memerankan Raphael dalam kampanye promosi tur konser Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.[8]

Kehidupan pribadi

Black menikah dengan Martha Anne Hagen pada tahun 1998.[9] Mereka memiliki dua orang anak,[10][11] Elijah (lahir tahun 2001) dan Ruthie (lahir tahun 2003).[12][13] Mereka tinggal di Savannah, Georgia.[14][15]

Black adalah seorang ateis,[16] tetapi sekarang menjadi seorang "deis yang enggan".
