USS South Dakota (BB-57) adalah sebuah kapal tempur di Angkatan Laut Amerika Serikat dari 1942 sampai 1947. Sebagai kapal utama dari kelasnya, South Dakota adalah kapal ketiga dari Angkatan Laut AS yang mengambil nama dari negara bagian AS ke-40. Empat kapal dari kelas tersebut dianggap kapal tempur paling efisien yang dirancang dibawah pembatasan Traktat Angkatan Laut Washington.[1] Pada Perang Dunia II, kapal tempur tersebut mula-mula bertugas pada sebuah tur di teater Pasifik, dimana kapal tersebut bertempur dalam Kampanye Guadalkanal pada 1942.[2][3]
