Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul atau yang lebih sering dikenal sebagai V. S. Naipaul (17 Agustus 1932 – 11 Agustus 2018) adalah seorang penulis Karibia keturunan India-Nepal penerima Penghargaan Nobel yang lahir di Trinidad dengan kewarganegaraan Britania.[1]

Pada 1990, ia dianugerahi gelar kebangsawanan oleh Ratu Elizabeth. Ia menerima Penghargaan Nobel Sastra pada tahun 2001.[2] Dalam beberapa buku ia memusatkan diri pada peran agama, seperti Islam, dan ia menuai kritikan karena bertumpu dari sudut negatif, seperti nihilisme di antara fundamentalis. Ia tetap menjadi tokoh yang dicaci di Pakistan. Selain itu, nasionalisme dan kolonialisme juga menjadi tema dalam buku-bukunya.

Meninggal

Naipaul meninggal dunia di rumahnya di London dalam usia 85 tahun pada tanggal 11 Agustus 2018, kurang dari sepekan menjelang ulang tahunnya yang ke-86 tahun.[3][4]
