Istilah susu mentega juga merujuk kepada sejumlah minuman susu berfermentasi, yang umum di wilayah panas (contohnya wilayah Balkan, Timur Tengah, Turki, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka dan bagian selatan Amerika Serikat),[1] serta di wilayah dingin, seperti Skandinavia, Finlandia, Belanda, Jerman, Polandia, Slowakia dan Republik Ceko.
