Pada pilkada Tebingtinggi 2010, pasangan Umar-Irham Taufik memperoleh 27.825 suara atau 43,82 persen mengalahkan empat pasangan lainnya yakni Adi Harianto-Sarabintang Saragih (nomor urut 2) meraih 622 suara (0,9 persen), dan Amril Harahap-Irwandi (nomor urut 3) memperoleh 3.711 (5,8 persen).
