Ringkasan

Deskripsi
English: Sikorsky S-39B amphibian. This example, serial number 904, FAA registration NC803W, first flew on July 31, 1930. It was originally based in Hartford and flown by Charles W. Deeds, Vice-President and Treasurer of Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. During WWII, it was flown by the Civil Air Patrol out of Rehoboth, Delaware, for air-sea rescue operations. One such mission resulted in the pilot Hugh Sharp and his observer Ed Edwards becoming the first civilians ever to be awarded the military's Air Medal. The mission also earned Sikorsky the prestigious Collier Trophy. 904 closed out its flying days as a bush plane in Alaska. It was damaged in a forced landing in Yacutat, Alaska in September 1957. It remained there until 1963 when it was recovered along with NC-58V which was donated by Mr. Phil Redden of Spenard, Alaska to the Bradley Air Museum. Both aircraft were then shipped via air freight by a C-123K Provider to the former Bradley Air Museum, now New England Air Museum Windsor Locks, Connecticut on Saturday October 19, 1963. Through the joint cooperation of the Alaska ANG and under the direction of Maj General Reincke and Brig General Stanley of the Connecticut ANG the transfer was accomplished. It was dedicated during a brief completion ceremony July of 1996.
