Masalah bahasa keagamaan adalah logika kausalitas atau melogikakan Tuhan sebagai jawaban dari berbagai pertanyaan. Masalah tersebut bukan hanya merupakan sebuah masalah filsafat, tapi juga psikologi dan bahkan ilmu pengetahuan.

Menurut August Comte (1798-1857), perkembangan pengetahuan dan pengertian manusia semenjak – Yunani Kuno sampai abad Renaissance – bergerak secara linier mulai dari mitis, teologis, metafisik dan terakhir positif. Positivisme yang bertumpu pada akal dan pengalaman, maka kebenarannya bersifat konkrit, eksak, akurat dan bermanfaat, memberikan perhatian yang tinggi terhadap dunia riil. Positivisme ini kemudian melahirkan apa yang kita sebut dewasa ini (sekarang) dengan ilmu pengetahuan modern, dimana masyarakat modern (masyarakat industri) talah sampai pada puncak perkembangannya dengan ciri-ciri berfikir positif. Ilmu pengetahuan modern mengklaim dirinya sebagai satu-satunya pengetahuan yang dapat dipercaya, dapat diuji, diverifikasi dan dibuktikan dengan eksperimen. Karena itu, ilmu pengetahuan bersifat universal. Tuhan merupakan ranah keagamaan yang bersifat subyektif dan hanya diyakini oleh orang-orang yang mempercayai akan keberadaan-Nya.
