Pelantikan Karmapa Ketujuh belas, kepala Buddhisme Tibet sekte Karma Kagyu, menjadi subjek kontroversi.^[1] Sejak kematian Karmapa keenam belas, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, pada 1981, dua kandidat diajukan:

Ogyen Trinley Dorje lahir pada 1985 dari sebuah keluarga nomadik di sebelah timur Tibet.

Thaye Dorje lahir pada 6 Mei 1983 di Lhasa, Tibet. Ayahnya adalah Mipham Rinpoche, reinkarnasi dari lama aliran Nyingma paling berpengaruh.

Written by a Tibetan translator, who lived for years in Nepal and India and also made many trips to Tibet. The book also gives a generous sampling of his poetry and teachings as well as the stories of the 16 previous Karmapas. The author is a student of Situ Rinpoche.
